Jogging has many benefits, like better cardio and respiratory health, weight management and a mood booster. Jogging in and around Sennen Cove also offers spectacular views with hilly, flat and beach terrain, where you can challenge yourself or take it easy and absorb all the natural beauty surrounding you.
Jogging is slower and less intense than running, allowing you to view the wonderful Cornish nature and see some exciting wildlife on your journey on land, sea and in the air.
For those of you who like to jog with your dog, most areas are dog-friendly but do check, as some beaches have a no-dog policy in the summer months.

Get The Lay Of The Land

On arrival at Vallendreath Cottages, why not jog around the village? Get settled in and then head off for a fact-finding jog. Late afternoon and early evening are a great time to head out. You can discover the local Spar, the famous First & Last Inn.

There are three ways in which you can do this:

  1. Head out from the Vallendreath cottages, and go SE along Sunny Corner Lane until you meet the A30. Follow along this route, past the Spar, to the First & Last Inn—about 1.3 miles one way.
  2. Turn Right at Sunny Corner Lane on leaving the cottages, and follow the SW Coastal path. Turn left, crossing Cove Rd, to Maria’s Lane. Follow this lane, turn Left towards Mayon Green Crescent, and right onto the A30, just before the Spar—about 1.4 miles one way.
  3. As above, but go slightly further on the SW Coastal Rd, take a slight right onto Maria’s Lane and then take a left at Stone Chair Lane. You will meet the A30 nearer to the Spar than the other two—approx 1.5 miles one way.

Off course, you can go one way outwards and back another way.

Sennen Cove to Nanquidno - moderate exercise - 5.2 miles

At low tide, you can jog along the white sands of Whitesand Beach from Sennen Cove to Gwynver. It is a moderate jog that goes around Aire Point to the granite boulders of Nanquidno. Boulders polished by long-vanished prehistoric sea millions of years ago, cliff erosion has exposed them. The return route is via the mediaeval farmsteads of Nanquidno, Gurland and Escalls via tracks, footpaths and small lanes.

Sennen Cove Circular - moderate exercise - approx 3 miles

  • This is a 5.1 km circular path. The route can take around one and a half hours if you do not stop to admire the views—although we recommend that you do. It is also quite a quiet trail unless it is high season.
  • From the Sennen Cove car park, behind Ben Tunnicliffe’s restaurant. Go 1st right up the hill to the road, cross over and take the residential road opposite.
  • A track at the end of the road is part of the Sustrans National Cycle Network. Follow this smooth gravel path to the Land’s End entrance.
  • 100 yds further down, take 1st footpath on the left, past small farm buildings onto the tarmac.
  • Take the 1st left fork towards the hotel and cliffs.
  • Follow the coast path away from the Land’s End hub to the lone building on the headland. From here, you follow the coast path to Sennen. Go path the lifeboat station to go back to the car park.

Don’t forget to enjoy the spectacular views on this route.

Priests Cove Jog - Hard

This 9-mile route along the South West Coast Path takes you from Sennen Cove to Priest Cove. The terrain is hilly, with 6.6 km ascending and 1.17 km flat. If that is too strenuous, then you can follow the path as far as you want before returning via the same route.

If you do decide to jog to Priests Cove, it is a small fishing village surrounded by cliffs with a lovely man-made tidal pool. Time your jog to be when the tide’s incoming, and you can add a dip in the pool to refresh you and prepare you for the return journey. If you like to jog with your dog, Priest Cove does have a no-dog policy in the summer months.

Many hiking and walking trails are good for jogging, but be aware these are public footpaths. Always check the distance and elevation. Some of these walks are hard if you only want an easy jog!

Join A Community Jog

Every Saturday, Parkrun hosts a walk, jog or run community event. It is a 3.1 mile or 5 KM course. Please register before the event if you plan to attend. An iWalk Cornwall app also gives various walks in and around Sennen, where you can jog. The Komoot website is also great for planning jogs and hikes, providing detailed information on the type of paths and elevations.
